About T-Fal

T-Fal was founded by a French engineer, Marc Gregoire, and the business started in 1956 in Sarcelles, France, with the intention of manufacturing nonstick frying pans. The company is a pioneer in developing and producing nonstick cookware. They also produce and distribute French cookware and small appliances.

The parent company Groupe SEB is based out of Rumilly, France.

T-Fal is known for cookware that allows you to cook with very little oil, and food doesn’t stick to the cookware because they are Teflon coated.

T-Fal Initiatives 14-Piece Ceramic Nonstick Set

Design:

This elegant 14-piece cookware set from T-Fal is an attractive set with glass lids that include steam vents in the top. It is available in three colors: black, blue and gold. It has a beautiful smooth finish inside and outside of these pots and pans.

The lids and handles are easy to grip, sturdy, and durable. They are also heat resistant. Handles and lids can still get hot during longer use, so you will want to take precautions and use potholders whenever necessary.

The cookware is solid and durable, and the shipping weight of the whole set averages a little over twelve pounds. It is also recyclable cookware.

Materials:

This set has a nonstick ceramic coating on the inside of the pots and pans that resists stains and scratches. The sides and the base of the cookware are made from heavy gauge aluminum.

There is no cadmium, lead, PFOA, or PTFE materials in this cookware. The pots and pans do not tarnish, and the ceramic coating makes it completely safe to use.

The glass lids are tempered, meaning they are safer than normal glass. They allow you to keep an eye on your food while it cooks. They also fit securely to seal in flavor and moisture.

This cookware set also comes with four nylon utensils that can help to prevent scratches and scrapes.

You can use this cookware set on gas, electric, and glass/ceramic stovetops. Induction tops are the exception.

Usability:

This high-quality cookware is perfect for cooking anything you can dream up. This is a complete set for a small or medium sized family. The pieces are oven safe up to 570°F, and the even heat base distributes heat for consistent cooking results.

Ceramic cookware also makes it easier to prepare healthier, more nutritious food because it locks in nutrients, flavor, and moisture. The downside, as it is usual with ceramic coatings, is the added sensitivity of the coating material. T-fal says this set is exceptionally durable, but in our experience, you need to take extra care with any ceramic interior cookware if you want to keep it in good condition.

This set of ceramic cookware can withstand temperatures at higher heat, which is perfect for browning, frying, and searing meats. You can use less oil when cooking as well.

The cookware comes with four nylon utensils, but we were not a big fan of them. You can also use wooden utensils if that’s what you prefer. This is what we did after testing the nylon ones.

Cleaning:

This T-Fal cookware set is dishwasher safe, and it can also be hand washed. While it is more durable than most ceramic pans and pots we have tested, and the manufacturer claims its dishwasher safe we would still go with hand washing as it will extend the lifespan of the pieces.

You will want to avoid using metal whisks, knives, or other utensils with sharp edges.

The set contains:

  • 8.5-inch frying pan
  • 10.5-inch frying pan
  • 11-inch covered frying pan
  •  5-quart covered Dutch oven
  •  2-quart covered saucepan
  • A set of four nylon utensils

Pros

  • Cadmium, lead, PTFE, and PFOA free
  • The ceramic coating makes this set scratch and stain resistant
  • There is a lifetime manufacturer warranty
  • Oven safe temperatures of up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Supports healthy cooking with less oil

Cons

  • Better to hand wash rather than dishwasher cleaning
  • Handles can loosen easily
  • Not suitable for induction cooktops

T-Fal Ceramic Chef 12 Piece Cookware Set

Design:

This 12-piece ceramic cookware set is classic looking, and it comes in two stylish colors, red and champagne. It features glass lids with steam vents so that you can see your food cooking without interrupting the process.

The inside of the cookware features nonstick ceramic coating that is resistant to scratches and stains. You will love the smooth finish and matching handles on this cookware. It can be displayed in your kitchen or kept in a cabinet.

The handles have an ergonomic design. There is also a lifetime warranty on the cookware.

Materials:

This is a heavier cookware set by T-Fal and boxed; it weighs just over 17 pounds. It’s non-toxic with no PTFE, PFOA, lead, or cadmium materials, and the set will not dull or tarnish. The ceramic coating is safe to use for cooking.

The bottom and exterior of the pots and pans are made from heavy gauge aluminum, adding to their durability. The set includes three nylon utensils to help keep the cookware pristine from scratches.

Usability:

T-Fal is a leader in quality nonstick cookware, and this set is ideal for home chefs and everyday use. We have found the heat distribution to be even and it did perform well with eggs, sauces and stew without developing hotter areas. This is often the issue with cheaper cookware sets, especially while making a lighter sauce such as our favorite version of hollandaise.

The ceramic coating ensures that food doesn’t stick, and it’s simpler to prepare healthier dishes with less oil. The matching lids not only look great, but they also lock in flavor, moisture, and nutrients so that food is packed with nutrition and is delicious.

The nonstick ceramic coating is also resistant to stains and scratches, making it a quality cookware set that will last. If you enjoy steaks and burgers, you can cook at higher temperatures to sear, brown, and fry your meat, locking in the flavors of your spices.

The set comes with 3-nylon utensils, which will save you money on having to go out and purchase these items separately. The utensils include two spoons and a spatula.

Cleaning:

The ceramic cookware set is dishwasher safe, and each piece can be hand washed if you prefer. We would always go with hand washing any ceramic cookware. In addition to nylon utensils, you can also use silicone or wooden pieces to protect the nonstick coating and keep it scratch resistant.

The set contains:

  • 10-inch frying pan
  • 5-quart jumbo cooker
  • 1-quart covered saucepan
  • 2-quart covered saucepan
  • 5-quart Dutch oven
  • 3 nylon utensils

Pros

  • Innovative nonstick ceramic interior
  • Champagne or red color with matching ergonomic handles
  • Even heating base
  • Vented glass lids with matching handles
  • Durable and constructed with heavy gauge aluminum

Cons

  • Higher temperatures on a gas range tends to burn the handles on the cookware
  • Customer service can be less than helpful with some issues

T-Fal Endura Granite Ceramic Pan Set

Design:

This set of frying pans by T-Fal is designed in granite with the company’s signature ceramic nonstick coating. The frying pans are good sizes at 8 and 10.5-inches round. They feature easy sloped sides and a wide base for sautéing, searing, and pan-frying.

The pans are of high quality and durable. They can withstand heat up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit and are scratch and stain resistant. They also feature riveted stainless-steel handles that stay cool and provide a comfortable grip for safety.

These pans are also oven safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The granite design is both charming and classic.

Materials:

These pans are recyclable, free of toxins like lead, cadmium, PFOA, or PTFE. The base is made from heavy-gauge aluminum. They feature the Thermo-Spot technology by T-Fal, which is built into the nonstick coating of the pan.

The heat indicator will tell you when your food has reached the optimum temperature that seals in flavor so that you can sear meats for tenderness, and make vegetables, and even pancakes perfectly the first time.

Usability:

These pans are high-quality and feature an even heating base that cooks food evenly for dependable results.

We have thrown the usual eggs and bacon combo in them and there was no sticking or uneven burning of any kind. The ceramic coating allows you to use less oil for healthier and more delicious meals.

These pans are compatible with gas and electric stoves with coils or plates.

Cleaning:

These pans are dishwasher safe and can always be hand washed for gentler cleaning. Foods don’t stick to these pans, so it is easy to clean them. Its important to let them cool after use and only then clean them. Do not cool them down with cold water right after cooking as this is the best way to chip your ceramic sets!

The set contains:

  • 8-inch frying pan
  • 10.5-inch frying pan

Pros

  • Oven safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Nonstick ceramic coating
  • Riveted stainless steel handles
  • Free of toxic chemicals
  • Can be used on electric or gas stoves

Cons

  • Cannot be used on induction or glass stoves
  • Bolts on the handle tend to loosen with use

Alternatives to Consider

A great option to the T-fal Initiatives is the BulbHead Red Copper 10-piece set. It is a similarly priced ceramic cookware option we tested and liked. Don’t let the difference between 14 and 10 pieces fool you, it’s the 4 utensils the Red Copper set does not contain.

If you don’t wanna deal with the sensitive ceramic coating but still want the nonstick feature, the T-fal Titanium Advanced Nonstick set can be a good substitute to the Ceramic Chef 12-piece set. You will even get an extra pan for a similar price.

If you looking to add a super stylish pan to your kitchen your friends will definitely ask you about, check out the 11-inch Granite frying pan from Indoor Ultima. It looks similar to the T-fal Granite pans, but the glass lid and fake wood handles make this pan stand out from the crowd.

Conclusion

T-fal delivers good value with these ceramic cookware sets. (1) While we have seen fancier cookware with more features, they usually come with a much higher price tag.

We would recommend the Initiatives set with the thermo spot indicator and added durability as a first ceramic cookware set to any newer cook who is perhaps not that confident in the kitchen yet. The Ceramic Chef set is a good mid-priced option with a more stylish look and the Granite Ceramic pots are a good addition to just about any kitchen.
