Cuisinart was founded in 1971 by Carl Sontheimer, who had recently graduated from MIT and had a love for French food. Sontheimer unveiled his now-legendary food processor at a 1973 Chicago trade show. That appearance, along with a mention in Gourmet magazine, really launched the company.
