How to Make Air Fryer Salmon

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 × 1 ½ inch-thick salmon, wild-caught & pat-dried
  • ½ to 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp extra- virgin olive oil
  • Salt & black pepper, as needed
  • Lemon slices, for serving
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • Herbs of your choice, for garnishing

Method of Preparation

To begin with, season the salmon with olive oil, salt, paprika, and pepper generously. Set it aside for a minimum of one hour for marination. Tip: You need to spoon the oil evenly so that the salmon gets an even lightly fried texture. If there are bones, make sure to take them out.

Next, place the seasoned salmon on the basket of the air fryer. Tip: If you wish, you can lightly oil the basket with non-stick cooking spray. Too much of the spray can cause smokiness though.  Also, make sure that the sides of the salmon don't touch the sides of the air-fryer.

After that, set the temperature at 390 ◦ F or 198 ◦ C for 7 to 9 minutes. Tip: This is an appropriate time. The cooking time varies with the size of the fillets and the size of the air-fryer. But then, the internal temperature of the salmon should be between 145 ◦ F or 120 ◦ F.

Once the time is up, open the lid of the air fryer and check whether the fish is cooked according to your preference. If desired, you can serve it along with lemon wedges. Garnish with herbs if using. Tip: You can check whether the fish is done with a fork.

If not, cook for further 2 minutes. Make sure not to overcook the salmon though. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Serve and enjoy.

Air Fryer Salmon Tips

  • You can pair it with salads or with grains like couscous etc. or with veggies like broccoli or sprouted Brussels.
  • Make sure you use fillets of the same size and thickness. When it is similar thickness, they will cook more or less at the same pace. But then if the thicknesses are different, there is a chance for the fish fillets to be undercooked.

  • Before marinating the salmon, it would be great if you could place it at room temperature for one hour.
  • Do not overcrowd the air-fryer as it will affect the cooking time of the fillet. When the fish touches each other, there is a risk of the salmon not getting crisped up.
  • Season it with seasoning generously as the fish taste better.
  • If you prefer, you can keep a dollop of butter on top for more flavor and texture.
  • Or if you want a crunchy crust, you can top it with sesame seeds.
  • Or, if you prefer a Chinese twist to the salmon fare, then you can season it with soy sauce and sesame oil along with salt and pepper.

There is no need to take off the peel before marinating rather it will come out on its own after the cooking. When cooking if the skin is there, it will lock up the juices and help to keep them moist.

How to know whether the fish is cooked properly?

Before cooking, the fish will have a translucent color. But once it is cooked, it gets an opaque color. On top, when you poke it with a fork in the thickest portion of the fish, if it pokes easily while having a little translucency in the center, then it is cooked.
